I don't need freebies to enjoy a hotel but I sure like them. Here are the top ten faves ways a hotel can make my day.

These things aren't necessarily to help me work better, but they do make my traveling lifestyle nicer.

This list of fun, fabulous hotel freebies is in no special order:

  • Hair and body things - to make the wife happy. The posher the better. You want to read about free luxury hotel toiletries, you can catch Jen Miner's article.
  • Breakfast - a decent one, especially a buffet bar with eggs, bacon, bagels and fresh orange juice. Read my hotel meal roundup for more on living and traveling with various diet plans.
  • Fitness room - keeping fit is important and easy to blow off when it's not convenient. I do know how to have mini-workouts in my hotel room, if need be, but that is a lot less fun.
  • Beverage coupons - some hotels give you a nice glass of wine in the evenings. Some hold wine tastings. This is just a splendid practise that more hotels should adopt.
  • Airport shuttle. Please make life easy for this business traveler and you will have my business in return.
  • WIFI. Free. In my room. No more need be said.
  • Newspaper at my door in the morning. Or stacks of them in the lobby, but I really do like it AM at my door if possible. Call me lazy.
  • Coffee. Lots of it and fresh. Free in the lobby at all hours and keep it coming. :)
  • Common area, maybe with a fireplace in the winter, or cool fountains in warm climates. I can drink my free coffee and read my free newspaper there, even. Or a cocktail lounge is okay, too.
  • Cable, so I can watch the game on Sundays. Both in the room and also on the HDTV in the cocktail lounge. Gotta unwind after a hard week of work. Boo-ya!

This is the article on the fluffier side of hotel freebies. Except for the WIFI, none of the rest of the items above are absolutely crucial to getting some work done. Best Hotel Amenities details the necessary items a business traveler needs for work and not play per se. My blog walks through the little things a hotel might put out in a typical hotel room.
